The team at RPP Containers has over 20 years of expertise in sales, distribution, and custom fabrication of plastic returnable bulk bins. Servicing a broad range of industries, the RPP team consistently listens to feedback from its diverse base of customers. Increasingly, the RPP sales team has received numerous requests for bins with custom fork runners to accommodate the use warehouse picker automation and new generation handling equipment with narrow fork spacing. RPP’s CustomBulk® division set out to address those pain points for its customers by customizing bulk bins that can be handled by single and double clamp order pickers, as well as pallet end rider material handling equipment.

The Challenge

Develop a cost-effective solution to adapt standard plastic bulk bins to accommodate narrow fork openings between 1-7”. Order pickers have either single or double clamps and serrated edges that would otherwise damage plastic bases. Double pallet end rider equipment typically limits fork opening to 7.5”, which is too narrow for use with the standard bulk bin base designs. 

The Solution

 The RPP CustomBulk® team developed a family of unique custom base and fork strap configurations. By utilizing multiple best-in-class fabrication processes, RPP CustomBulk® developed unique base designs to retrofit all standard plastic bulk bins. Custom fabricated base designs allow for safe use with all forms of narrow fork automation and material handling equipment that are otherwise not compatible with standard plastic bulk bins. 

The RPP Custom Fabrication Process

Modifying the width of the center foot and/or utilizes steel reinforcements to replace the center post or fork straps. Additionally, a replaceable clamp board is installed to interface with the serrated single and double clamp order pickers. All modified bulk bins retain full functionality of drop doors and collapsibility for return ratio efficiency.

All bins are engineered and tested to exceed stated performance ratings. In addition to ASTM testing protocol of the standard bins; custom bin test protocol is designed to evaluate durability in real world material handing environments to insure that all CustomBulk® products will exceed customer expectations every time.
