FedEx Shipping

Commercial Delivery

For most LTL carriers, many of our deliveries are likely business-to-business (B2B), home offices, eCommerce warehouses, and 3rd party logistic centers. Now freight shipping is becoming ever more prominent in residential settings. The freight company will expect the recipient to unload the products from the truck when it arrives at the delivery address. A loading dock, forklift, or pallet jack may be required. Suppose the recipient does not have a loading dock or equipment to unload the order from the delivery vehicle. In that case, selecting a special delivery service (lift-gate) in addition to standard shipping charges may be necessary.

Residential Delivery

Residential/Farm Delivery

LTL carriers classify residential delivery locations as private residences, apartment complexes, businesses located at a private residences, and farms. Plus, if the location is not designed to accommodate 53’ freight trucks. Carriers justify residential fees based on the fact that residential streets are narrower and more difficult to maneuver. If your destination qualifies as” Residential” it is necessary to select the proper service level during checkout to ensure receipt of the order.

Limited Access

Limited Access Delivery

Limited access would be classified as storage units, churches, synagogues, temples, schools, commercial establishments not open to the walk-in public during normal business hours (gates or guard shack), construction sites, fairs or carnivals, prisons, military bases/installations. If your delivery falls under limited access, additional coordination between the customer and the freight company will be required. An additional fee must be collected for the order to be properly delivered.

Please keep in mind the carrier has the final word on these issues and the charges can rarely be disputed.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions from customers

Q: My shipping location receives 53’ freight truck all the time plus has no heavy traffic or restrictions. Can we remove these charges?

A: We receive this question a lot from our customers, but the answer is no. As mentioned above, LTL carriers have the final say on what is or is not a residential location, and sometimes with borderline cases, it is best to check with our knowledgeable team here at Bulk Container Express by giving us a call or contacting us via online chat feature.

Q: I forgot to include the residential service on my sales order. What’s the worst that could happen?

A: If you’ve placed an order without requesting a residential service for delivery, and the shipment has not yet been picked up, you can fix this by contacting our team here at Bulk Container Express. We will gladly help revise your quote/sales order and additional pricing. As long as the new paperwork is used, the carrier should have all of the relevant information and there should be no issues.

If you’ve forgotten to let us know, and the carrier thinks they will be delivering to a business with a dock instead of a residence, this could lead to issues such as missed deliveries. The freight company will dispatch a 53’ truck that is too large to access the delivery location, which can result in delays, avoidable extra charges, and needless headaches. These re-delivery fees are billed directly to the customer not to Bulk Container Express.

Bulk Container express realizes that residential charges are an inconvenience to you, the customer. For this reason, we will select notify before delivery to make sure the delivery goes with as few delays or hiccups as possible. If you need to set an appointment, we can arrange for that too.

Do you have questions?

In conclusion, shipping costs are determined based on the order's size, weight, and destination, along with any additional service charges necessary for delivery. Shipping charges may be estimated prior to placing an order. Don't hesitate to reach out by phone, email, or chat if you have questions pertaining to your delivery location.
